Hotels in Bishkek Bishkek Bishkek (known as Frunze before 1991), the capital of the Kyrgyz Republic, is located where the Kazakh steppe meets the Tien-Shan mountains. Bishkek was founded at the beginning of 19th century after the Kokand conquerors erected a fortress which guarded the caravan routes extending from Tashkent to the Issyk-Kul. The fortress was destroyed in 1864-1878. After the Revolution in 1927 Pishkek became the administrative centre of the Kyrgyz Autonomous region. Marvellous parks, gardens surround Bishkek.
